All,
One of the things that seems clear from the recent meeting with the minister is
that the department is determined to use the system purchased even if it is not
the best available.
Perhaps a compromise position could be reached by changing the way the voter
enters their vote to the existing system: via OpScan instead of the current
user interface.
Attach an OpScan reader to each machine. Have the voter prepare a scannable
ballot and record it through the machine before placing it in the ballot box.
This could be the best of all worlds: we get an undisputed paper trail and the
capability for a recount, everyone gets rapid results and the department gets
to save face.
Thoughts?
Brian.
