Scotland will be using STV for its local elections on 3rd May 2007.
The votes will be counted electronically. People will vote with paper
ballots and the ballot papers will then be scanned. The scanners can
scan 3000 to 5000 votes per hour. I wonder how much the Scottish system
cost?

The second link raises concerns that the votes are not visible while
being scanned and that the scanners have to undergo regular maintenance
during the count.
